Tipitaka

There were several canons of teachings but remained only 1 – Tipitaka (three baskets). Spisan in the Pali language. The sermon was addressed to the brahmin ascetics. He said that before him there were 2 directions-self-satisfaction and asceticism. It offers a middle path that leads to peace, insight, and Nirvana.

This path was proclaimed in ” 4 noble truths”:

1.Life is suffering

2.The cause of suffering is desire

3.The cessation of suffering is the renunciation of desires

4.To the cessation of suffering is “the noble octal way” – the path of right view, the path of right decisions, the right way of speech, way of right doing, the right path of everyday life, the path of right effort, the path of right thinking, path of right concentration (meditation).

The one who has achieved all this becomes an Arhat.

Buddha did not deny the traditional Deities. They could be used to fulfill everyday desires.

All Buddhists are required to perform 5 zapovodey:

“don’t kill the living

-not steal

  • don’t commit adultery

“don’t lie, don’t slander

  • do not drink intoxicating drinks

Member of the SANHA (bhinmu)+ 5 commandments

  • eat no more than 1 time a day
  • do not participate in entertainment
  • do not use jewelry and incense
  • don’t sleep in a comfortable bed
  • do not accept gold and silver
